Ex-Hatton, WA, Fire Chief Wanted for $70K Theft

Jared M. Potts served as clerk/treasurer as well as chief of Hatton Fire Department.

Following an investigation, Washington law enforcement officers are seeking the former Hatton fire chief.

Jared M. Potts is wanted for theft of more than $70,000 from the Hatton Fire Department, according to KXLY. 

In addition to its chief, Potts also was the clerk/treasurer.

A citizen brought concerns about the department's finances to the Adams County Sheriff's Office. An audit was conducted by the state auditor's office.

While executing a search warrant at Potts' house on Wednesday, deputies found over 70 pieces of mail that belonged to area residents.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

Potts, who was not at his house when it was raided, is charged with  theft, possession of stolen property and seven counts of mail theft.
